Force Majeure

This paragraph talks about a special rule often included in contracts, called a "force majeure clause". This clause is added to protect both parties (the people or companies involved in the contract) from being punished or held responsible if something big and unexpected happens that prevents them from fulfilling their duties under the contract. For example, if there is:

  • a natural disaster like an earthquake, flood, hurricane, or any other extreme weather event,
  • a major worker strike or labour issue,
  • an act of war or terrorist attack,
  • a civil disturbance (like riots or protests),
  • or serious problems with power supply, internet, or computer systems,
